Hey guys! It’s been a while (remote learning has me so busy!), but I really wanted to review this product I’ve been using for a while: Cosrx’s Salicylic Acid Exfoliating Cleanser. I like to use this during the summer and around that time of the month, because it really gets the excess oil off my face, and the salicylic acid helps targets breakouts more so than the Good Morning Low pH Gel Cleanser (at least I like to think so). It seems that the name of the product has been changed to Cosrx Salicylic Acid Daily Gentle Cleanser, but they do the same thing.
Claims: On Cosrx’s website it says this product
“Gently removes impurities and excess sebum while fighting acnes and blemishes, leaving skin soft and smooth without the stripping feeling.”
I definitely agree that this cleanser removes impurities and excess sebum, but I’m not sure if it decreases the acne on my face. If it does it’s not noticeable, unfortunately. I do think this cleanser leaves the skin feeling pretty soft and smooth, but it is slightly stripping. If I don’t moisturize right after, my skin becomes a little scaly and dry.
Water, Glycerin, Myristic Acid, Stearic Acid, Potassium Hydroxide, Lauric Acid, Butylene Glycol, Glycol Distearate, Polysorbate 80, Sodium Methyl Cocoyl Taurate, Salicylic Acid, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, PEG-60 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Fragrance, Sodium Chloride, Melaleuca Alternigolia (Tea Tree) Leaf Oil, Caprylyl Glycol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Salix Alba (Willow) Bark Water, Saccharomyces Ferment, Cryptomeria Japonica Leaf Extract, Nelumbo Nucifera Leaf Extract, Pinus Palustris Leaf Extract, Ulmus Davidiana Root Extract, Oenothera Biennis (Evening Primrose) Flower Extract, Pueraria Lobata Root Extract, 1,2-Hexanediol, Ethyl Hexanediol, Citric Acid, Disodium EDTA
The key ingredients I see for acne fighting are Salicylic Acid and Tea Tree Oil. Salicylic Acid is a type of BHA, which means it reaches deep inside your pores and cleans/exfoliates the dead skin cells and any other pore clogging nastiness. However, there are a few ingredients here that do make me a little concerned. Some people who are extremely senstive to oils could have problems with the hydrogenated castor oil. Also, this product contains the one ingredient that I’m really trying to avoid: Fragrance! I really, really hope that in the future Cosrx will try to incorporate less fragrance into their products, because I really love the simplicity of their ingredients lists, but they’re almost always clouded with some fragrance. Overall, a really simple and down to earth ingredient list that I think only a few people may feel sensitive to.
Despite the castor oil and fragrance, I enjoy this cleanser. I think for the price, it’s a decent deal. IMO, you don’t really need to splurge on cleansers because they are pretty much capped in how much they can help you skin, since you wash off all the ingredients anyways. It’s a nice plus that this cleanser has salicylic acid and really gets off excess oil for acne prone people. Although this cleanser didn’t really help my breakouts, it definitely got rid of excess oil, which may have eventually led to a pimple. In comparison to Cosrx’s Good Morning Low pH Cleanser, this cleanser is a little more stripping and foams up much more, which adds a little bit extra exfoliation (although I wouldn’t recommend leaving or creating a ton of foam on the face because it can really lead to irritation and damage the skin barrier). This cleanser also takes off my oil cleanser really quickly, which is super nice. It also smells like tea tree oil, which makes sense because tea tree oil is one of the ingredients. I don’t mind the smell, and it goes away really quickly. Overall, a pretty nice summer cleanser or a daily cleanser for oily skin. Although, I have normal to combination skin and if I don’t use a toner or moisturize right after using this cleanser, my skin gets very tight and dry.
Pros and Cons:
- Contains salicylic acid, which might help with breakouts
- Takes off excess oil
- Decent price
- Mildly drying (it’s fine if you use a toner/moisturizer afterwards)
- Contains fragrance 😦
- If your skin is sensitive to essential oils or castor oil, this product may not be for you.
Who Should Use:
I think anyone who has oily /combination acne prone skin will really enjoy this. I wouldn’t recommend this to my friends with dry skin. I think this will be too stripping for them.
3 – 3.5 stars
I think this product is fine, it didn’t really impress me though. I feel as though the effects are just like a slightly more intense version than the Good Morning Low pH Gel Cleanser, which I’m not sure if I like. It’s an okay price, but I’m not blown away. I think the Good Morning Low pH Gel Cleanser is better.
